Bottom Line
This little machine punches way above its weight for tackling carpet stains and upholstery messes.
I’ve owned the Bissell Little Green for about six months now, and it’s become my go-to weapon against pet accidents, coffee spills, and mystery stains from my toddler. At $89.99, I was skeptical it would actually work as well as advertised, but I’m genuinely impressed. It’s not perfect, but it’s solved more problems than I expected from something this compact.
What I like about it
The suction power on this thing surprised me right out of the box. I tested it first on an old wine stain on my beige living room carpet that I’d basically given up on. After two passes with the included 3-inch stain tool and the Bissell formula, about 80% of the stain was gone. The spray-and-suction combo works exactly like they show in the videos – you pull the trigger to spray cleaning solution, then the motor immediately suctions it back up along with the dirt. It’s weirdly satisfying to see dirty brown water filling up the tank.
The 48 oz clean water tank is the perfect size for what I need. I can usually tackle 4-5 decent-sized stains or clean two dining room chairs before needing a refill. At 7.2 pounds, it’s light enough that I can carry it upstairs without thinking twice, and the 15-foot cord gives me enough reach to do an entire room without unplugging. Storage is easy too – it fits in my hall closet next to the vacuum. After six months of pretty regular use (I have two dogs and a three-year-old, so that’s saying something), it still works like day one. No weird smells, no motor issues, nothing.
✅ The good stuff
- Powerful suction actually lifts embedded stains, not just surface dirt
- 48 oz tank capacity handles multiple cleaning jobs without constant refills
- Lightweight at 7.2 lbs – easy to carry room to room or upstairs
- Two different stain tools work great for different surfaces (tight corners vs. wider areas)
- Compact 11 x 6 x 14 inch size stores easily in any closet
❌ Worth knowing
- Instructions are pretty basic – took me a few tries to figure out optimal spray-to-suction ratio
- The 8 oz trial formula runs out quickly, budget for buying more cleaning solution
- 15-foot cord is decent but not great for larger rooms
My honest take
This isn’t going to replace a full-size carpet cleaner if you need to do entire rooms regularly, but that’s not what it’s designed for. For spot cleaning and emergencies, it’s absolutely worth the money. I’ve used it on car seats, couch cushions, area rugs, and even the carpet in my basement stairs. The tough stain tool attachment has stiffer bristles that really help work the solution into fabric before suctioning. My only real frustration is that the instructions don’t explain much beyond the basics – I had to watch a YouTube video to learn that you should make slow passes and overlap slightly for best results.
The machine itself feels solid and well-made. Nothing rattles or feels cheap. Emptying the dirty water tank is gross but straightforward – just pop it off, dump it in the toilet, rinse, and you’re done. I will say the trial-size cleaning formula only lasted me about three cleaning sessions, so factor in buying more solution. I’ve been using the Bissell brand formula, and a 32 oz bottle runs about $10-12 and lasts quite a while when diluted properly. At this price point and performance level, I honestly think it’s one of the better cleaning investments I’ve made for my home.
Have pets or kids and deal with frequent carpet accidents and spills. Need something for spot-cleaning upholstery, car interiors, or area rugs. Want a compact cleaner that actually works without spending $200+ on a full-size machine.
Skip it if you…
Need to clean entire rooms of wall-to-wall carpet regularly (rent a commercial machine instead). Want something cordless or with a longer reach than 15 feet.
